New Wine For Your Marriage

by family-admin
Ama and Richie were ‘lovebirds’ at the university. They studied together, partied together and went everywhere hand-in-hand. All their friends knew they were madly in love and would get married one day. They eventually did
Three years down the line, Richie had changed totally. He would not take to advice, would come home habitually late and drunk, and had had the effrontery to bully and slap Ama on some occasions. The couple would ght and argue anytime they were together. Ama had nally decided to opt out of this marriage. Richie’s parents were not making the situation any easier as they put pressure on Ama for their grandchild.
One afternoon, Ama surprising met with Fati, an old classmate, in the market. They talked over a drink and reminisced over past and present experiences. Ama poured out her heart, especially her concerns about her husband.
Fati looked straight into her friend’s eyes, and said, “There is hope for your marriage. God is the author of marriage and He has the ‘modus operandi’. You remember the wedding in Cana of Galilee (John 2:1-11). The marriage feast ran out of wine, an important element for the occasion, but when Jesus came on the scene, He turned ordinary water to new good wine. Go back to Him and ask for wisdom for your marriage. The word of God says: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:6). Concerning children, God will bless you with the fruit of the womb, “Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward” (Psalm 127:3). “However, you have to give your life to Him and develop a personal relationship with Him; I know that He will surely see you through. Ama, “Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labour in vain” (Psalm 127:1). “I am willing to do anything to make this marriage work,” replied Ama. Fati led her through the sinner’s prayer, and encouraged her with testimonies of other couples that had experienced a positive turn-around in their marriages when they allowed God to be their pilot. Ama went home with condent assurance that the Lord will ght her battles for her.
She stopped nagging and throwing tantrums even when her husband came home late. Instead, she would lay the table and encourage him to have a shower before dinner. Richie was confused. “What has come over her? She now obeys me, serves well, and has even stopped denying me sex” he wondered.
One Friday evening Richie came home early. That day Ama decided to give him a treat. She volunteered to trim his nger and toe nails. ”Why are you suddenly being so kind to me in spite of my bad attitude and deeds?” Richie asked. ”It’s because of Jesus! He is working on me and I am still under construction – I’m work in progress.” She replied jokingly. Richie gave her a hug, “I can’t believe this is happening. It’s as if we just got married. I’m so sorry for what I’ve put you through. I don’t know what came over me.” “You are forgiven!” replied Ama. ”I have good news for you.” She handed him a medical report. “What! I am going to be a daddy? This God is too good. He has brought laughter and new wine back to our home. I owe Him!” Richie screamed proudly.
“Richie, we all owe Him our lives. You need to give your life to Him like I did and He will be in the centre of our marriage.” “How do I do that?” asked Richie. “Just repeat this prayer after me – “Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner. Please, forgive me. I commit my life to you because I realize I cannot run the race of life on my own. Thank you for accepting me as your beloved. Amen.”
